One of the simplest pieces of advice that people give and get is, if something is not working, check to see if it is plugged in. How about if we think for a few minutes about prayer and making sure it is plugged in. Prayer is a human activity to stay in touch with the power of God. When we are not plugged in, we are either running on battery power or without power at all. But on a more interesting note, think about what happens when you plug a light in. Nothing happens to the socket or source of power. What has changed is the light. It now has what it needs to bring light. Plugging in to the power, changes the lamp. So it is with prayer. Our conversation with God does not change God. It changes us. We get a direct connection to the source of love, forgiveness, hope, life, reconciliation, empathy and compassion to name a few. When Paul writes, "Pray constantly, he tells us to make sure we are plugged in to the source of life.
